This past weekend we drove up to Durango to ride the Polar Express. It was so wonderful and absolutely magical. We stayed in a great hotel about a block from the train station and it had an indoor swimming pool. Durango is such a cute little town and we really wanted to stay longer but Justin had to go back to work.
Callie even got to wear her PJs on the train!
We decided to go to dinner before the train ride and we walked through a good rain to a nice little restaurant. After a nice dinner we walked to the train station and "patiently" waited to board the train. While we waited the rain turned to snow. I am such a sucker for snow with Christmas! I found it to be so magical! Callie loved the snow just as much as I did!
Then the moment finally came!
Callie was so excited, ok me too! They acted out the book at the start with the conductor talking to Billy and letting him board the train. The inside of the train was decorated with garlands, lights and bulbs. Very pretty! We had two chefs on board that served us hot chocolate and cookies and read the book the Polar Express.
Below is one of the elves
We even had the golden ticket! The conductor came through and punched a whole bunch of holes in them. I was so proud of Callie she handed him our tickets for us. For those of you who don't know Callie too well she is extremely shy but she really stepped out of the comfort zone. I was trying very hard to figure out how to take pictures without using the flash so most of the pictures came out very very dark.
We then stopped at the North Pole where elves were dancing and Santa Claus waiting. Callie was so excited about meeting Santa this year. So while we were stopped at the North Pole, Santa came aboard! Oh Callie was so excited! He gave her a silver bell which she loves!!! We all sang Christmas carols on the way back to Durango. I tried to get video but again it came out almost black
What a great adventure! I loved every minute of it!!
We woke up this morning and this was out the window! So beautiful!
Callie got up this morning put on her hat and boots and said she was ready to go ride the train again! I wish we could take her again.
She even wore her hat during breakfast
A major winter storm was crossing the state as we were heading home. At first it wasn't too bad but it quickly deteriorated. We ended up going slowed than 30 mph a good part of the way.
We got behind a snow plow and that really helped. But suddenly the snow stopped and the sun came out! Smooth sailing from there. It was such a beautiful drive!
